ADHD is defined by google as “a chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity and impulsiveness”. In truth, it’s a disorder that causes persistent problems with sustained attention due to lack of interest, with additional issues involving hyperactivity, impulsivity, and executive functioning. People with ADHD are considered Neurodiverse due to their display of atypical patterns of thought and behaviour.
As much as we joke about the symptoms of ADHD, they can be destructive, disruptive, and exhausting.
People with ADHD often have trouble with:
Time blindness (being late, bad perception of times speed etc.)
Hyperactivity or restlessness (always moving, drawing, fiddling, shaking legs, moving between tasks etc.)
Rumination (overthinking)
Mood and emotional regulation
Intense sensitivities (touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell)
Goal and task completion
Future planning
Energy management
Motivation
Attention (daydreaming, procrastinating)
Relationships
Impulsivity and recklessness
Self-worth – understanding individual strengths, talents, and abilities
Financial management
Keeping a routine
Despite being involuntary, the effects of unmanaged ADHD often lead to a person facing difficult situations like:
Unemployment
Divorce or disconnect from family
Low self-worth, value and esteem
Depression
Anxiety
Debt or lack of savings
Addiction
Issues with the law
Poor parenting
Issues with friends
Loss of career or education opportunities
It can be so hard to deal with these things on your own. Working with a coach can help you gain self-awareness, better coping mechanisms and a smoother ride in life.
I’ve always been told that having ADHD is a superpower. I’ll be honest, it’s taken a lot of work to believe that. After my own journey, I can proudly say that now, I really do. While our weaknesses may feel intense, I’ve learnt that it’s our strengths that don’t get enough credit.
Neurodiverse people have immense amounts of creativity, enthusiasm, and authenticity. Along with their own personal talents, they have the unique ability to thrive in all environments, take on the chaos and make purposeful and meaningful changes to their lives. I can say that through experience, and I hope my clients get to the same point in their lives too.
ADHD coaching is unique in the way we focus entirely on our clients’ individual experiences. We don’t believe in a generalised 6-week plan to happiness because every person who has ADHD or is close to someone diagnosed, is unique. We focus on an ongoing partnership to work through your individual difficulties, explore your inner workings and find personalised solutions to conquer your challenges.
Our goal is to help you work with your uniqueness rather than against it by giving you space to feel safe, heard and understood.
